Nicaragua
Nicaragua is the poorest country in Latin America and second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Currently, over 80 percent of the 5.5 million residents are living below the $2 per day poverty line. High unemployment and underemployment have resulted in this widespread poverty and country-wide economic instability.
Listed among the Seven Horrendous Wonders of the World, Cristo Rey, a barrio on the outskirts of the capital city of Managua is home to 4000+ families that know no other life. Here they anxiously wait for the garbage trucks to bring them scraps, or scrounge through the piles of garbage in the hope that they might find something valuable they can use. Some days they are lucky enough to eat and other days they “fast”.
Here people make shelters from black plastic and whatever scraps they can find. Most homes have mud floors, no sanitation, electricity, clean running water, medical attention or educational opportunities for their children. During rainy season, the shallow latrines that families use flow onto the paths and walkways. Most children walk around barefoot in a combination of mud and human waste. Their future is bleak.
Since 2014, Club Need together with our church partner in Cristo Rey, operates several programs in the community including water, food, housing, education and healthcare.

Project Overview
Providing the gift of access to school bus transportation for children in areas plagued by extreme poverty, such as those surviving on just $2 per day in Cristo Rey Nicaragua, is an investment in the future that transcends monetary value.
Many children must travel large distances to get to school, often enduring harsh weather conditions that can make their journeys even more perilous. Without access to a school bus, the only option for these children is to walk, and because this takes so much longer, attendance decreases, and eventually, the children stop attending. This not only jeopardizes their safety but also perpetuates the cycle of poverty.
Your support enables these children to attend school regularly, ensuring they have a higher chance of completing their education and accessing better job opportunities. Moreover, the gift of school transportation reduces the burden on families with little to no means, allowing them to allocate their limited resources to more important necessities like food and healthcare.
With reliable bus transportation, their journeys are made safer, they arrive at school well-rested, and their ability to focus on studies improves, thereby empowering them to create brighter futures for themselves and their communities.
The objective of this project is to ensure a reliable and secure mode of transportation for 50 students from Cristo Rey Nicaragua who lack the financial means to cover the expenses associated with the school bus.
Every day, these students face the scorching sun and traverse dusty, occasionally muddy roads, often teeming with heavy commercial truck traffic departing the local dump located near their home. This daily journey not only poses safety risks for these schoolchildren but also inflicts a detrimental blow to their self-esteem due to the inability to afford the local school bus, resulting in reduced attendance and, ultimately, dropping out of school.
The provision of consistent transportation to school will have a profoundly positive impact on the attendance of these 50 students, subsequently leading to improved academic performance.
This initiative leverages the existing local school bus system, thereby eliminating the need for expenses related to vehicle operation or maintenance. The sole financial requirement is the purchase of local bus tickets.
Our trusted project partner, with whom we have collaborated for a decade, oversees the allocation of funds for bus tickets and directly distributes them to students on a weekly basis. Additionally, they diligently monitor student attendance to ensure the success of this project.
Micro Impacts represent the smallest measurable units of positive change stemming from our charitable projects. At Club Need, we deconstruct initiatives like providing clean water for a day or sheltering a family into these essential components. Each micro impact is meticulously calculated, factoring in project duration, beneficiaries, and cost.
We intentionally keep the cost of micro impacts minimal, making it affordable for businesses to create a meaningful impact. By choosing micro impacts like providing a liter of clean water for less than a cent, companies seamlessly integrate social impact into daily operations, creating a collective ripple effect for meaningful change without substantial expenses.
