Nicaragua
Nicaragua is the poorest country in Latin America and second poorest in the Western Hemisphere. Currently, over 80 percent of the 5.5 million residents are living below the $2 per day poverty line. High unemployment and underemployment have resulted in this widespread poverty and country-wide economic instability.
Listed among the Seven Horrendous Wonders of the World, Cristo Rey, a barrio on the outskirts of the capital city of Managua is home to 4000+ families that know no other life. Here they anxiously wait for the garbage trucks to bring them scraps, or scrounge through the piles of garbage in the hope that they might find something valuable they can use. Some days they are lucky enough to eat and other days they “fast”.
Here people make shelters from black plastic and whatever scraps they can find. Most homes have mud floors, no sanitation, electricity, clean running water, medical attention or educational opportunities for their children. During rainy season, the shallow latrines that families use flow onto the paths and walkways. Most children walk around barefoot in a combination of mud and human waste. Their future is bleak.
Since 2014, Club Need together with our church partner in Cristo Rey, operates several programs in the community including water, food, housing, education and healthcare.

Project Overview
In Nicaragua’s poorest barrios, where poverty and limited opportunities prevail, we’re addressing a critical issue: classroom hunger and malnutrition.
Education alone can’t break the cycle of poverty, but when paired with proper nutrition, it becomes a vital part of the solution.
By pledging your support, you become a lifeline for underprivileged school children from struggling families.
This isn’t just about filling their stomachs; it’s about ensuring they have the energy and focus needed to excel in their studies.
Your contribution has a lasting impact, improving students’ nutrition over time and creating a foundation for healthier lives.Furthermore, the assurance of a daily free meal acts as a powerful incentive for parents to enroll their children in local schools and encourages regular attendance. These children often endure extreme poverty, sometimes surviving on just one meal a day. Your support not only addresses immediate hunger but also plays a pivotal role in reducing poverty in Nicaragua. It aids students in concentrating better, achieving higher grades, and ultimately securing better prospects after graduation, leading to economic independence and improved living conditions.
Join us in providing one nutritious meal each school day. Your contribution holds immense significance, creating tangible improvements in the lives of these children.
In the heart of Cristo Rey Nicaragua, where Club Need lends its unwavering support, lies one of Central America’s most impoverished barios, where families often struggle to secure even the most basic necessities—food and clean water.
The goal of this project is to provide daily meals for 200 underprivileged children who would otherwise go without.
These nutritious meals encompass a balanced combination of rice, beans, chicken, vegetables, and, on special occasions, sweets or fruit. For these families, chicken is a rare treat, making this program even more noteworthy.
In the feeding center’s bustling kitchen, a team of dedicated cooks ensures that each school lunch is a hot, nourishing meal for these children. This meal not only fills their bellies but also incorporates two vital sources of protein—beans and chicken—rarely found in their family diets. The cooks meticulously source nutritious ingredients to promote the health, physical growth, and cognitive development of each child.
The impact of this program has been profound. Since the introduction of this lunch program, school attendance has skyrocketed from below 60% to over 98%. Currently, we serve around 200 children, and the potential to expand this initiative within the Cristo Rey Barrio to another 200+ students is very exciting.
This program also creates two amazing ripple effects. By enhancing food security at the household level, it frees up family income that was once allocated for food consumption. This newfound financial freedom allows families to invest in productive assets, improving their overall livelihoods.
The cost of each meal includes all necessary ingredients, spices, firewood, and transportation to the local market. It also factors in a significant milestone: compensation for the four women who once volunteered their time to shop, cook, serve, and clean as part of the program. Club Need now pays these remarkable women a fair wage, accounting for $0.10 cents of each meal cost. This act of recognition, gratitude and empowerment is particularly meaningful in a community where employment opportunities are scarce. It demonstrates their worth and the positive change this initiative brings to their lives and their community.
Join us in making a lasting impact in the lives of these children by pledging your support today. Together, we can nourish their futures and break the cycle of poverty.
Micro Impacts represent the smallest measurable units of positive change stemming from our charitable projects. At Club Need, we deconstruct initiatives like providing clean water for a day or sheltering a family into these essential components. Each micro impact is meticulously calculated, factoring in project duration, beneficiaries, and cost.
We intentionally keep the cost of micro impacts minimal, making it affordable for businesses to create a meaningful impact. By choosing micro impacts like providing a liter of clean water for less than a cent, companies seamlessly integrate social impact into daily operations, creating a collective ripple effect for meaningful change without substantial expenses.
